Church
-noun
a building for public Christian worship

Its funny how over the course of 2000 years this word Church has gone from being an adjective to now more commonly known as a noun.

Adjective?  Yes adjective.  In the very founding blocks of Christianity the word church was used to describe a community of believers in Christ.

It wasn’t a building.

It wasn’t a noun.

It wasn’t a location.

It wasn’t a pit stop during the week.

However, it was a group of individuals.  The church was a word to describe.  All through out Paul’s letters to the early churches you see him using the word church to define the group of people.  Saying that they ARE the church… that we today ARE the church.

So how then did this word become a noun?  And is it still an adjective?

I think over time especially in our western civilization we have turned church into a location for selfish reasons.  A cute little building we can come to once or twice a week to meet God.  We can do our thing and live our lives and when its convenient for us we will go visit God in the box we have placed him in.

Because to be honest its hard to live this thing out 24/7.  Its hard for us to grasp the fact that the word Church is really an adjective, describing who we are as followers of Jesus.

But I believe the Church is still an adjective.

I believe it describes you.

Me.

Our community.

Our brothers and sisters.

Our family.

In Christ.  I encourage you to come to terms with the fact that its Not.Just.A.Building
