I was headed to a friends house the other day when i was stopped behind a woman’s large black SUV at a red light. The car’s bumper littered with her children’s achievements in the form of stickers. “Student of the Month” “MVP In Baseball 07” “Regional Spelling B Winner”. You name it this woman had nearly 25 stickers proudly displayed on the back of her car making sure total strangers were aware of the fact that her and her husband had created super children.
My parents would have a pretty funny bumper sticker collection if they could brag about their lovely son. “Sleeps In Till Noon” “Sits Up At Starbucks All Day” “Can’t Find A Job”.
I remember my High School graduation. All 700 of us sat out on the baseball diamond. Principal said a few words followed by the schools President. Then there was a moment right before calling all of our names to honor all of the achievements made over the past 4 years. Best Attendance, Best Grades, Best Athletes, Best in Drama, Best in Music, Community Service awards…. the list went on. And soon I found myself sitting down as nearly 500 of my peers were standing for something around me.
I had chosen to invest my spare time in church while in high school. And thats not something you stand for at a High School Graduation. Thats not something they make bumper stickers for these days. As I sat there I felt God assuring me that one day I can stand next to him in heaven and that he was proud enough of what I chose to invest myself in that he was going to put a bumper sticker on his car.
I picture God like that woman driving the black SUV stopped at red light. With tons of bumper stickers across the back of his sweet ride. He’s proud of his children when they choose to be faithful. He’s as proud as Super.Soccer.Mom
