Riding.Off.Into.Sunsets
I love going to the movies! I grew up going to them every single weekend with my dad for as long as I can remember. In my house movies were our religion and the Oscars was as close as we came to an Easter service.
All the lights are turned off.
All distractions are put aside.
Talking isn’t an option.
And if you weren’t as passionate about the movies as we are then you weren’t welcome to come over for the awards.
Thats a dangerous reality to grow up watching all the time though. A reality where the prince always gets the princess. Where the good guy always defeats his arch enemy. Where the main character’s dreams come true and cowboys really do ride off into the sunsets.
What I’ve learned is that the silver screen makes promises a lot like lust does. Lust, weather it be for sex, fame, power, or you name it promises us a reality that doesn’t exist. A reality thats a lot like the silver screen. A reality that tells us we will be riding off into our own sunsets if we just humor the idea of what lust has to offer.
But lust at the core of what it is is a lie. When was the last time you gave into your lustful desires and felt like you got what you were promised? Never! It only leaves us depressed searching even harder for that silver screen experience. Making us even more prone to fall in the same footsteps we have before.
I still love the experience of going to the movies. But only because I can see through the smoke and mirrors of the silver screen. Only because I understand that lust is nothing more than a giant lie. Only because I know life isn’t always about Riding.Off.Into.Sunsets
