If you know me then you know that I’m addicted to check lists!  I love planning things out and organizing my life into one simple easy to follow daily planner.  I will even go out of my way to write down the lamest of line items into my list because I feel so accomplished when I get to check them off.

I have check lists in my phone

In my iPod

In my computer

And in my walet

Did I mention I love check lists yet? Ok good… … . . Check!

My passion for these lists has caused some problems with my walk with God.  I’ve turned God into this giant list of Do’s and Don’ts over the years.  It became so easy to follow these list of rules and regulations that I lost sight of what being a Christian even means.

Its about a relationship with God.  If you’ve ever been in a relationship then you know check lists can go right out the window.  Your significant other would probably hurt you if they discovered they had become a line item on your to do list.

Healthy relationships take time and effort.  As they grow and mature you find yourself wanting to do things for that other person.  You find yourself growing and changing for the better.  You begin to find yourself happy when your partners happy and sad when they are sad.

As much as I love my check lists at the end of the day I am so thankful that my God isn’t a God of Do’s and Don’ts.  But instead he is a God that wants to enter into a relationship with me.  He wants to use love as the only tool to help me discover what true life is all about.

I don’t think I’ll ever stop making check lists but I have stopped Making.Faith.A.Line.Item
